Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, Robin’s interest in violin sparked as an elementary school student in her hometown of San Carlos. Playing violin with the California Youth Symphony (CYS) in her high school years profoundly shaped her love of classical music and orchestral performance. Founder/Conductor Aaron Sten’s demand for passion and perfection left a lifelong impression on Robin; qualities rewarded by a 4-city CYS concert tour in Australia. Benefit concerts to fund the tour, featuring Duke Ellington and Jack Benny, further drove Robin’s desire to pursue a career in music.
Robin earned a BA in Music from California State University at Chico, as well as an MA in Violin Performance from California State University at San Francisco. While enrolled at the latter, she studied under San Francisco Symphony Principle Second Violinist, Dan Kobialka. She has performed with the Camelia Symphony, the Stockton Symphony, and SSMA (Sessione Senese Per La Musica E L’Arte ) Symphony in Siena, Italy. She is currently assistant principle 2nd Violin for the Folsom Lake Symphony.
An ardent fan of chamber music, Robin played violin for the Capitol Classics Quartet in Sacramento. She has also performed with the Middle Sisters Trio and various other ensemble groups in the Sacramento area. Robin taught Orchestra, Classroom Music and Spanish in the San Juan Unified School District for 34 years, and taught private violin lessons off and on throughout that time. Now semi-retired, she maintains her enthusiasm for violin and music by still advancing her skills with violin instructor, Frieda Yang, former concert violinist performing with the New York Pops, the New York Grand Opera, the National Grand Opera and director of the Manhattan Chamber Ensemble.
Other interests include playing tennis with her husband, travel, reading and biking.
